Hutchison Ports UI/UX Design for Veronica
Terminal Operation is a complex business.
We manage complexity so it isn't complicated.
As the world's leading port investor, developer and operator, Hutchison Ports operates 53 ports across Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, the Americas and Australasia.
To run daily tasks efficiently, a reliable TOS (Terminal Operation System) is key for the Ops Specialists and regional support centres. The project(s) we took part in is game-changing as in maintaining the company's leading port network, while also innovating for service efficiency and operating responsibly.
Turn Right team first joined to work on the UX/ UI design for the modernized TOS, and further on to visioning new product features that promote usability, lower frictions, enhance situational awareness and strengthen operation responsiveness together with chief Product Owner(s) and global operation teams.

Some Key Highlights
Field Study/ User Interviews & A Day with the Control Tower
The Container Terminal Operation is a niche business to most people, given its complexity and practicality. The Team had requested a couple days with the Control Tower specialists, who were often the frontline firefighters for the smoothness of the daily operations at the port, to understand their way of working and what made them hesitant on embracing 'change'. The team also visited internal R&D to gather core product ideas and difficulties on global implementation. The findings were gathered into a report and served as the basis of 'Problems' we targeted to solve together with new PO and potential testing sites.

Getting Innovative on SolutioningHow about a 'Idea Museum'?
Apart from setting the visions straight by creating an interactive high-fidelity prototype for the PoC stage to gain stakeholder buy-in, our team was lucky to work with an innovative mind who was also the chief Product Owner and oversees the progress of digitalization worldwide.
Together we have interviewed working teams from China, Pakistan, HK, Thailand and the UK. Gathering their regional workarounds while tackling specific issues, and understand their expectations on how to streamline their work flows and make communication more effective, we built an 'Idea Museum' prior to and after the interviews, so as to guide the interviewees to share their thoughts and feedback on possible solutions.

Low-Fi, Mid-Fi to High-Fi Prototypes, plus User Stories
We work more than just making fancy User Interfaces! As part of the Project Management, we write User Stories with epics and categories, while also suggesting feasibilities/ prioritization in order to achieve the most effective and efficient by-stage results.
To facilitate Development teams on understanding why a feature should be built that way, User Stories and product demos were prepared and handed to PO in an organized way.
